My Very First Live Reading

Back in March, I participated in my very first live reading of one of my comics. I was invited by the folks who put on the Papercuts comic events. What a delightful group to read with - so warm and welcoming.

I got to follow my mentor, Mari Naomi. She is personally responsible for my starting to draw comics. I'd been self-publishing picture books and short-story zines since I was in elementary school. I was also back to painting at the time I met Mari. She asked, "Since you like to write short stories and you like to draw and paint, why don't you try out doing comics and combine your story-telling passion with your visual art passion." And the rest is history. I've been somewhat obsessed with drawing comics ever since.

Every artist at this event was very talented and put on an entertaining performance. I now wish I'd asked my partner to videotape each of the artists so I could enjoy them again.

In any case, for those of you who missed this awesome event, I'm posting the video coverage of my reading. Please keep in mind that this is my first time reading my comics out loud. I wrote my comics as the medium for which they were intended (reading), so the translation may not come across as well.

Check it out.

My First Superhero Comic

I'm never sure about drawing comics for friends, as 95% of the time, my friends complain about how I illustrate them. "Is that what I look like?" But my friend Diane suggested that I draw this story for our mutual friend Barb's birthday. It was included in a memory book that Diane put together as a birthday present. She totally remembered the story and told it to the crowd of people celebrating with us, so I guess she wasn't too upset about it. Though maybe I'll hear about it later, when the crowd is gone. Cross your fingers for me!

Fetish for Learning

This blog is going to be where I post comics or highlights of comics that have not been published in book format yet. This is meant to give you a taste of my newer work. I believe (hope) that my work continues to get better and better over time, though you can decide that for yourself.

Please click on the image to enlarge it for easier reading.

Welcome to new and experienced readers alike! I hope you enjoy my work!
